Red velvet is one of those cakes that came from the States but has grown seriously popular over here. Made with buttermilk and cocoa rather than butter, it is a deliciously moist cake and a great alternative to a traditional chocolate. The cake is sandwiched together with vanilla buttercream and sprinkled liberally with red velvet cake crumbs.
